Connecting to the video wall system in the JRJSC Conference Room

The JRJSC Conference Room is primarily used as a meeting space with a video displaying one or two presentation sources connected to one or both possible input sources: through the WiFi network via an Apple TV, and/or through a wall-plate with an HDMI cable and adapters. One or both of these sources can be used, either as a single source for display simultaneously on all screen designs, or split between screen designs with two possible views.

Apple TV Connection

If you have an AirPlay-capable device such as an iPhone, iPad or Macbook, using the Apple TV is usually the preferred choice as you can broadcast from any location in the room. Your device must be connected to the RCS-Community WiFi network.

Cable Bundle Connection

A cable bundle is affixed to the wall below the Touch Pad controller. Connect the appropriate HDMI adapter for your device to the end of the HDMI cable. There are adapters for MDP/Thunderbolt 1 (older Macbooks), USBC (newer Macbooks, Windows laptops, and Chromebooks,) and Lightning (iPhone/iPad) on the security loop.

3.5mm Headphone Cable

The 3.5mm audio cable (headphone plug) in the bundle is for connecting audio devices only, and is not needed when connecting a computer with the HDMI cable and adaptors.

Using the Touchpad

When the video wall system is powered down, the Touchpad screen should be dark. Touch the pad and a welcome screen with the RCS logo will be present. Touch the pad again and you should be presented with a row of persistent icons on the top: Settings (which is locked with a password); Apple TV Control, which mimics a Apple TV remote; a digital clock showing the current time; and a power button icon which will let you choose to continue the power off sequence or cancel. If no action is taken from this screen, the system will power down after 30 seconds to a minute.

Below that is a persistent set of icons which represent available input sources: Apple TV, Wall Plate, Floorbox (unused), Media Player 1 and Media Player 2. Underneath these input sources is a graphical representation of the current setup of the video wall, which can be used in one of four configurations: TRIPLE QUAD, SIDE x SIDE, FULL, and PRESENTATION. All configurations can display video simultaneously from one device connected via the Apple TV, and another device via the cable connection, in multiple combinations.

The content from the two Media Player sources are not under user control, and are maintained by the school's Communications Department to show videos and slideshows. If you select either of these sources, there may or may not be any content displayed depending on the presentation schedule set by the Communications Department. The connection is unavailable.

Screen Configurations

TRIPLE QUAD - the 12-screen matrix is divided in three equal-size areas. Each area can be configured to display a separate video source if desired.
SIDE x SIDE - the 12-screen matrix is divided in three equal-size areas. Each area can be configured to display a separate video source if desired.
FULL - displays a single video source in a centered screen area.
PRESENTATION - displays one to four video sources on four single monitors in the center of the display matrix.

How to use the system

First, choose a Screen Configuration by tapping on it.
Next, tap on an Input Source panel, then on a Configuration panel. If the Screen Configuration can display two video sources, tap on each Configuration panel to direct the video source. The name of the Input Source should appear within the Screen Configuration panel. Note: sometimes the correct Input Source name appears within the Screen Configuration panel by default, but does not display on the screen. If this occurs, just tap the Input Source and then the Screen Configuration panel to set it correctly.
