Employees
* Self Service: Simple to setup, simple to use. The Best Option if you have an RCS-owned Mac laptop or are in the Upper School BYOD program.
If you are a school-issued macOS device, install the copiers/printers you need through Self-Service.
*Β  WebPrint: Simple to setup, more work for lots of printing, intended for light/weekly printing.

Mobility Print
If you are a student with a macOS device:
To improve the printing experience for Chromebooks, we have enabled Mobility Print. Prior to Mobility Print to print via a Chromebook we used Google Cloud Print. Google Cloud Print has proven to be unreliable. With Mobility Print there is a new workflow that the students must follow.

When you print for the first time you will need to "Change" the printer to a Mobility Print enabled printer.
#Open System Settings and select Printers & Scanners
#In the right hand side of the window, scroll down until you see Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax...
#Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax...
#Scroll down until you see rcs_copiers
#Click rcs_copiers and then click Add
The printer is now installed! The first time you print to rcs_copiers, you'll be asked for your Riverdale username and passphrase.
#Delete the text in the username field and enter your Riverdale username (ex. mvanmierlo23)
#Enter your Riverdale passphrase
#Check the box Remember this password in my keychain
You should now be able to print. If you encounter an error such as Hold for authentication, then find a member of the Tech Team at Help Desk or around campus to help. Β

Add Printers on Windows 11
#Connect to the RCS-Community wireless network and login with your Riverdale username and passphrase
# Be on the latest version of Windows.
#Press the Windows key or open the Start menu and type "\\carbon\"
#*If you encounter an error, press the Windows key or open the Start menu and type "\\carbon.riverdale.edu\" instead
#This will prompt for credentials choose More Options and use "riverdale\username" (ex. riverdale\mvanmierlo23) and press Enter
#This will bring up a window with all available printers. Double-click the desired printer icon in this window and that should install the printer and appropriate drivers
#Now when trying to print the dialogue should default to RCS_Copiers and the print job will be available any of the copiers. Your print job can be released by scanning your Riverdale ID at the desired copier.

You will see a whole list of printers, different than you are used to. Please scroll down to select the printer needed. The next time you print the printer should already be select like the above image.
Note: A small number of our users require the PaperCut Client Application to be running in order to print. If you received an email indicating that you were one of these lucky people, please follow our installation guide sent to you individually.

There are several steps to setting up a printer, and you may need to follow one or more of them. Use your best judgement -- worst case, you can delete the printer and start again.

Β
Some printers may not get installed automatically -- e.g. you're logged into a PC in Mow but you want to print to 9/10. If this is the case, you'll need to install the printer yourself. Here's how:
Β
First open the Devices and Printers window (see #Where to Find Your Current Printers). At the top of the window, there's a button called called "Add a Printer." Click this button.
:: <br clear="all">
Β
This will open the Add Printer Wizard. Click Add a Network, wireless or Bluetooth printer. Click Next to continue.
:: <br clear="all">
Β
The next window will contain a list of all networked printers on both the Hill and River Campus.Β  You can sort the list by location or printer name.Β  Select the printer you would like to install, and then Click Next
:: <br clear="all">
Β
Β
The first time you install a network printer, it will take a minute or two to install the drivers.Β  Be patient as the software installs the drivers and configures the printer.
:: <br clear="all">
Β
Should this be your default printer? If it should, then check the box next to Set as default printer.Β  If this printer SHOULD NOT be your default printer, uncheck the box next to Set as default printer.
:: <br clear="all">
Β
If the new printer was added successfully if it shows up in your Devices and Printers window. Good job!<br>
Β
Deleting a Printer
Β
If you're getting printing errors, you can sometimes resolve the problem by deleting and reinstalling a printer. To delete a printer, open the Devices and Printers window (see #Where to Find Your Current Printers), right click the printer in question, and click Delete.
Β
If the printer was your default printer, Windows will auto-assign a new default printer. When you add the printer back in, you'll need to reset it as the default printer.
Β
An RCS-managed  desktop computer
Β
You don't need to set up printers on any RCS-Managed Mac desktop of laptop -- we've done the work for you. Just click File > Print and the Print dialog box appears. A default printer is automatically chosen which is closest to your location. If your location has multiple printers available, you can select them from the drop down list. This is also handy when the default printer is broken or otherwise cannot print - just choose another printer close by.
Β
If you can't find the printer you need or if printing doesn't work, you can always Tsreq.

Install Copiers on Riverdale Devices

Add Printers on macOS

Employees

If you are a school-issued macOS device, install the copiers/printers you need through Self-Service.

  1. Click on the Self Service icon, a red Riverdale logo in your Application folder
  2. Click on Printers in the left hand menu
  3. Select RCS_Copiers or another copier/printer you need

This will install the printer/copier and relevant drivers on your school issued macOS device.

Students

If you are a student with a macOS device:

  1. Open System Settings and select Printers & Scanners
  2. In the right hand side of the window, scroll down until you see Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax...
  3. Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax...
  4. Scroll down until you see rcs_copiers
  5. Click rcs_copiers and then click Add

The printer is now installed! The first time you print to rcs_copiers, you'll be asked for your Riverdale username and passphrase.

  1. Delete the text in the username field and enter your Riverdale username (ex. mvanmierlo23)
  2. Enter your Riverdale passphrase
  3. Check the box Remember this password in my keychain

You should now be able to print. If you encounter an error such as Hold for authentication, then find a member of the Tech Team at Help Desk or around campus to help.

Add Printers on Windows 11

  1. Connect to the RCS-Community wireless network and login with your Riverdale username and passphrase
  2. Be on the latest version of Windows.
  3. Press the Windows key or open the Start menu and type "\\carbon\"
    • If you encounter an error, press the Windows key or open the Start menu and type "\\carbon.riverdale.edu\" instead
  4. This will prompt for credentials choose More Options and use "riverdale\username" (ex. riverdale\mvanmierlo23) and press Enter
  5. This will bring up a window with all available printers. Double-click the desired printer icon in this window and that should install the printer and appropriate drivers
  6. Now when trying to print the dialogue should default to RCS_Copiers and the print job will be available any of the copiers. Your print job can be released by scanning your Riverdale ID at the desired copier.

Note: A small number of our users require the PaperCut Client Application to be running in order to print. If you received an email indicating that you were one of these lucky people, please follow our installation guide sent to you individually.
