The Hold for Authentication message appears when you try to print after changing your Riverdale passphrase, but you haven't updated Keychain (macOS) or Credential Manager (Windows). Your laptop cannot authenticate to the Riverdale print server to submit print jobs.

This message appears when you try to print after changing your RCS passphrase, but you haven't updated Keychain. Your laptop is unable to authenticate to the Riverdale print server.

macOS: Resolve Printing Errors

Using Self Service (Employees)

You can update your Keychain passphrase through the Self Service app on your macOS device.

  1. Open the Self Service app and log in with your Riverdale username and passphrase
  2. Select the Keychain Category on the right
  3. Click the Update RCS-Print Keychain passphrase policy
  4. Follow the prompts for entering your Riverdale Username, Passphrase, and Laptop Password
  5. Your printing keychain passphrase is now updated.

Updating Keychain (Students)

  1. Click the Magnifying Glass icon on the top right of your laptop screen
  2. Search for and open Keychain Access
  3. Click Open Keychain Access
  4. Click Login on the top left
  5. In the search bar, type “print
  6. Find any entry titled “rcs-print.riverdale.edu”, “rcs_copiers” , or “RCS_Copiers” and delete it (right click, and delete)
  7. Try printing again. You will be prompted for your Riverdale username and passphrase!
    • IMPORTANT FOR MAC PRINTING. Make sure your username and passphrase are as follows when prompted:
    • ex. Username: <your Riverdale username ex. mvanmierlo>
    • ex. Password: <your new Riverdale passphrase>

Windows 11: Resolve Printing Errors

  1. Open Control Panel and select Credential Manager (you may need to change the view from Category to Icons in the top right)
  2. Under Windows Credentials click on carbon, then click edit
  3. Change your passphrase and click Save
