Unit Planning in Toddle
Toddle has robust tools for creating, maintaining, and sharing UBD lesson plans. Although these are a completely optional feature in Toddle, they are a very useful resource for curriculum planning, lesson design and more.
Summary:
- Units can be made in Course flow for any course you are a teacher of
- Units are automatically shared to the School Library (view-only access)
- Units can be shared with Edit access by going to the School Library, and sharing with individual teachers
- Unit contents (Learning Experiences, Assignments, Learning Objectives, etc.) can be imported easily into anyone's course(s)
Create a Unit:
- Go to your Course flow for the course you want to make a unit for
- Click + on the top right of the window, then click Create a unit
- The Unit is now in your Course flow
- Note: any Units created in your Course flow are by default ONLY visible to you, not your students. You can share this with your students in Course flow if you would like
- Add details to your unit! It is broken up into several sections for organization and planning. All of this adheres to the UbD framework (Understanding by Design), and will help you think through what you want to teach, and how you want to go about teaching it.
- Sections include: Basic details, Desired results, Evidence, and Learning plan
- You will be able to create/add Learning Experiences, material and more.
- After filling in these details, you can then go to the Unit flow tab on the top to create assignment templates that align with your unit. You will then be able to pull these easily into your class(es).
- Evidencing and Reflections are sections designed to help you gather artifacts from units, and also write reflection notes.
The screenshot below is meant to show you the blank "shell" for a Unit when you create one for the first time.
Sharing a unit gives edit access to an individual or a course team. By default, all units in the School library are view-only. To share a unit:

- Click School library
- Search for your Unit name in the search bar
- You can also filter by Academic year, Grade level, and Creator
