Welcome to GoGuardian Parent!

GoGuardian Parent is a mobile app to help keep parents/guardians aware of their children's browsing activity, app usage, and more. The GoGuardian Parent app acts as a companion to the classroom management and internet filtering tools that we use on iPads and Chromebooks issued to our Lower and Middle School students. Through the use of this app, we hope to encourage more open and honest conversations between parents and children that will result in safer practices and responsible browsing habits.

What is GoGuardian Parent?

GoGuardian Parent was created to help provide additional educational support to administrators and teachers by allowing parents to see what sites and documents their children are browsing. The app gives parents a bird's eye view of the apps and websites that their kids are on most often. With this perspective, parents can be made aware of what types of browsing behavior schools are seeing from students so they can all work together to encourage more effective internet browsing habits at home and at school.

What is included in this app:

  • Top 5 summary of student browsing (apps, extensions, documents, and websites visited)
  • 30-day view of websites, videos, documents, apps, and extensions
  • Parents can set time limits for chromebook usage
  • Parents can setup additional website filtering outside school hours

To access the app, please follow the below instructions:

  1. Download the app
    • iPhone: Visit App Store, search for GoGuardian Parent, and tap the download button, or click here.
    • Android: Visit Google Play Store, search for GoGuardian Parent, and tap the download button, or click here.
  2. After the app is successfully downloaded and installed, open it up and enter the email address registered with the school. Note: If you forgot your registered email address, please reach out to your school administrator. We call this your 'Email 1' in Veracross.
  3. Login/Check Email: Check your email on your phone for a link to log in to the app. Tap the "Verify your email", and it will take you straight to the app. Note: If you don't have access to your email through the device you used to log in, tap on "Login with verification code", and copy and paste the verification code from the email into the app.

GoGuardian Parent and YouTube

We block YouTube access for Lower and Middle School students on Chromebooks both in-school and at-home. The only scenario in which they can watch YouTube videos is if a teacher has assigned it via Schoology or one of our other platforms. If you see youtube.com in your GoGuardian dashboard it indicates your student attempted to access YouTube and was likely unsuccessful. It's worth a chat with them if you see it!

Configure Filtering Settings for your Children

Website Filtering

  1. From the homepage of the parent application displaying a summary of your child's browsing activity, press the middle icon at the bottom of the interface to open the Filters menu.
  2. After pressing Filters, tap the blue button at the bottom right corner of the interface to add a website to block access to for your child's managed device. You can add subdomains such as mail.google.com or entire domains such as tiktok.com.
  3. After typing the domain or subdomain, press the blue button Create to save the filter. It may take around 2 minutes or so for the filtering to take effect on a student's managed browser.

Note: Delete a filter by pressing the area to the right of the site and dragging it to the left. The row will be highlighted in red and will be deleted after sliding it to the left.

Pause the internet for your child

  1. From the homepage of the parent application displaying a summary of the student's browsing activity, press the fourth icon at the bottom of the interface to open the time limits menu.
  2. Press the pause internet button to view and select the desired timeframe from the preset increments to pause the internet for the student. It may take around 2 minutes or so for the filtering to take effect on a student's managed browser.
  3. Once the internet has been disabled, the app will show a countdown to indicate when access will resume for the student along with an indication that the internet is turned off. Press the Resume Internet button to allow the student to continue using the internet as needed.

Note: Filtering may not appear to be effective if a student stays on a webpage for an extended period without navigating to a different page of the site. Activity will be blocked upon subsequent navigation.

Scheduled Internet Usage

  1. From the homepage of the parent application displaying a summary of your student's browsing activity, press the fourth icon at the bottom of the interface to open the time limits menu.
  2. Press the blue Add Schedule button at the bottom right corner. Create a recurring schedule by specifying start time and end time of when the internet is to be disabled as well as the day(s) of the week you'd like the start and end times to apply to. Then click Create.
  3. For overnight scheduling to pause internet during the late evening/early morning, create two schedules for each day. Example: 3:30 PM to 12AM and 12AM to 8:00AM each day.

Note: "At Home" hours are from 3:30pm each afternoon to 8:00am every morning Monday-Friday and 24 hours a day Saturday and Sunday.
