Connecting to the video wall system in the JRJSC Conference Room

The JRJSC Conference Room is primarily used as a meeting space with a video displaying one or two presentation sources connected to one of two possible input sources: a wall-plate with an HDMI cable and adapters, and through the WiFi network via an Apple TV. One or both of these sources can be used, either as a single source for display simultaneously on all screen designs, or split between screen designs with two possible views.

Cable Bundle Connection

A cable bundle is affixed to the wall below the Touch Pad controller. Connect the appropriate adapter for your device to the end of the HDMI cable.

3.5mm Headphone Cable

The 3.5mm audio cable (headphone plug) in the bundle is for connecting audio devices only, and is not needed when connecting a computer with the HDMI cable and adaptors.

Apple TV Connection

If you have an AirPlay-capable device such as an iPhone, iPad or Macbook, using the Apple TV is usually a better choice as you can broadcast from any location in the room.

Using the Touch Pad

When the video wall system is powered down, the Touch Pad screen should be dark. Touch the pad and a welcome screen with the RCS logo will be present. Touch the pad again and you should be presented with a row of persistent icons on the top: Settings (which is locked with a password); Apple TV Control, which mimics a Apple TV remote; a digital clock showing the current time; and a power button icon which will let you choose to continue the power off sequence or cancel. If no action is taken from this screen, the system will power down after 30 seconds to a minute.

Below that is a persistent set of icons which represent available input sources: Apple TV, Wall Plate, Floor Box (unused), Media Player 1 and Media Player 2. Underneath these input sources is a graphical representation of the current setup of the video wall, which can be used in one of four configurations: SIDE x SIDE, FULL, PRESENTATION 1 and PRESENTATION 2. Two configurations, SIDE x SIDE and PRESENTATION 2 can display video simultaneously from two different sources.

The content from the two Media Player sources are not under user control, and are maintained by the school's Communications Department to show videos and slideshows. If you select either of these sources, there may or may not be any content depending on the schedule set by the Communications Department.

Screen Configurations

  • SIDE x SIDE - the entire 18-screen matrix is divided in half, right and left. Each side can be configured to display a separate video source if desired.
  • FULL - displays the largest image possible. Only one video source can be displayed.
  • PRESENTATION 1 - displays a single video source in a centered screen area smaller than the FULL configuration screen .
  • PRESENTATION 2 - displays one or two video sources on two single monitors in the center of the SIDE x SIDE configuration.
