Enable Find My Mac

We require Find My Mac to be enabled for all Employee Laptop Program laptops. Please enable Find My Mac by following the directions from apple or dial x50 and we can help you.

To set up Find My Mac

  1. Go to the Apple menu (ļ£æ).
  2. Click System Preferences > iCloud.
  3. Check the box to turn on Find My Mac.

To disable Automatic login:

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu (ļ£æ), then click Users & Groups.
  2. Click the lock , then enter account password.
    1. If you aren't logged in as an administrator, you're asked to enter an administrator's name and password.

The computer is now set up without automatic login when your Mac starts up.

Enable FileVault

As an admin your must have FileVault enabled. Please enable this feature as this poses a security risk to your personal and RCS related information.

To turn on and set up FileVault

FileVault 2 is available in OS X Lion or later. When FileVault is turned on, your Mac always requires that you log in with your account password.

  1. Choose Apple menu (ļ£æ) > System Preferences, then click Security & Privacy.
  2. Click the FileVault tab.
  3. Click Locked, then enter an administrator name and password.
  4. Click Turn On FileVault.

Reboot your computer

This computer hasnt been restarted in more than two weeks. For optimal performance RCS Tech recommends you reboot your computer at least once per week.

To Restart your computer, do one of the following:

  • Choose Apple menu (ļ£æ) > Restart.
  • Press and hold the power button until you see options, then click Restart or press R.
  • If the pointer freezes on the screen or your Mac becomes unresponsive, press and hold Control-Command while you press the power button to force a restart.

Important: If you force a restart, you may lose unsaved changes in open documents.

If you donā€™t want the app windows you currently have open to reopen when you restart your Mac and sign in, deselect ā€œReopen windows when logging back in.ā€

Update macOS

Upgrading is free. And easier than you think. Visit the macOS page on the Mac App Store. Click the download button and follow the onscreen instructions to begin your upgrade.

Malware detected

Your computer may be infected with adware or malware. We recommends bringing your laptop to help desk hours for assistance.

RCS-Guest deleted

We have deleted RCS-Guest from your preferred networks list as that network has changes as of Spring Break 2018. Employees (what about students?) should all be using RCS-Community to maximize speed, usability and to reduce filtering.
